The
teens scrunched their faces at him, then looked at each other.
“Can
anyone just take a kayak out?” Aesop nodded back at a stack of boats beside the
a large building. “Or is it residents only?”
“Is
there a problem here?” A man came out of the boat house. He wore loose cargo
shorts and a white tank top. He had a whistle around his neck.
“I
was just wondering about the kayaks,” Aesop said. “I’m a detective.”
He
stuck his left hand into the back pocket of his jeans to pull out his badge,
like he’d seen on TV. All he found was a bus transfer.
